2-Hour Workshop: CBT Skills for Managers & HR – Supporting Mental Health at Work

2 Hours Online or In-Person Delivered by Christina James, RMN

A practical 2-hour workshop introducing CBT-informed skills for managers, HR and senior leaders — helping you recognise signs of poor mental health and respond with confidence, without stepping into a clinical role.

Enquire About This Course

Workplace wellbeing is a leadership responsibility. This 2-hour practical workshop introduces Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)-informed skills to help managers, HR professionals, and senior leaders recognise signs of poor mental health in the workplace and respond in a supportive, appropriate, and confident way.

The focus is not on diagnosing mental health conditions, but on improving everyday conversations, communication, and early supportive intervention.

Why This Workshop Matters

Managers are often the first point of contact when an employee is struggling. Without the right skills, conversations about mental health can feel difficult, unclear, or avoided altogether. This can lead to increased absence, reduced performance, disengagement, and escalation of issues.

This workshop provides practical tools to improve confidence, communication, and early support — helping organisations create psychologically safer workplaces.

What the Workshop Covers

Participants will explore:

  • Common signs that an employee may be experiencing stress or poor mental wellbeing
  • How thoughts, feelings, and behaviours interact (CBT model in a workplace context)
  • How workplace situations can influence stress responses
  • How to have supportive, non-clinical conversations with staff
  • The difference between performance issues and wellbeing concerns
  • How language can either escalate or reduce distress
  • When and how to signpost to appropriate support (e.g. HR, EAP, occupational health)

Workshop Style

This is a highly practical, interactive, and psychologically safe 2-hour session including:

  • Real workplace scenarios and case examples
  • CBT-informed simple models for understanding behaviour
  • Guided communication practice
  • Reflective exercises
  • Active listening techniques
  • Practical tools for immediate use in the workplace

No prior mental health training is required. All participation is optional and adaptable to comfort levels.

Outcomes for Organisations

Following this workshop, organisations can expect:

  • Increased confidence in managing mental health conversations
  • Earlier identification of employee wellbeing concerns
  • Improved manager-staff communication
  • Reduced escalation of workplace stress issues
  • Stronger psychological safety and team trust
  • Better use of support pathways (HR, EAP, occupational health)

Ideal For

  • Senior leaders and executives
  • HR and People teams
  • Line managers and supervisors
  • Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) leads
  • NHS and corporate organisations

Who It's For

Senior leaders, HR and People teams, line managers, EDI leads, and NHS or corporate organisations wanting practical tools to support staff wellbeing earlier and more confidently. No prior mental health training required.

I recently completed a three-day training course with Christina James at Sanitas Hub to become a Mental Health First Aid practitioner and Neurodiversity Champion, and I cannot recommend the experience highly enough. Christina delivered the training with exceptional professionalism while maintaining a warm, approachable, and supportive atmosphere throughout.

I attended the 2 day Mental Health First Aider training with Christina at Sanitas Hub. The delivery of the course was exceptional and she really brought the subject to life. Despite it being taught virtually for the 2 days, I was completely engaged and despite some tough subjects, I thoroughly enjoyed the course and would have no hesitation in recommending anyone to join this course.

I have just completed the MHFA course with Sanitas Hub, provided by Christina James and it was brilliant. She was an amazing instructor, gave lots of real life experiences and brought a positive energy to a difficult subject. Christina was understanding, and provided lots of extra information you cannot find online or in books. I would highly recommend her courses to others.

Christina James is an excellent instructor. After the MHFA course I feel more confident in helping others successfully and most importantly ensuring my own mental health is ok in the process. When it comes to any other related courses or refreshers I would definitely seek her as a tutor!

Highly recommend this course with Christina, she is a fountain of knowledge when it comes to mental health. A very informative & interactive two day training session. Care is taken when heavy subjects are undertaken to make sure everyone takes sufficient breaks & is doing ok. I thoroughly enjoyed it & feel like I have the skills required to go forward as an MHFA.

The course has been lovely, it was very useful to learn the material in the context of Christina's real world lived experience with some of the conditions mentioned on the course, and invaluable to find out best practice tips when approaching such cases. The format was brilliant and interaction in the group was very helpful.
